‘Boner Coffee’ Recalled By FDA For Viagra-Like Ingredient

A Texas-based coffee company has issued a nationwide recall of its instant coffee product after the Food and Drug Administration discovered it contained a natural ingredient similar to what’s in the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.

Bestherbs Coffee LLC issued a voluntary recall of its “New of Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee” after the FDA found it contained Desmethyl Carbodenafil, a chemical similar to Viagra’s active ingredient Sildenaful.

The “undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels,” the FDA said in a statement.

The FDA also said the coffee contained undeclared milk, which could cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if the product was consumed by customers with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk.

No illnesses related to consumption of the coffee have been reported.

The instant coffee product was promoted as a male enhancement product and sold online nationwide from July 2014 though June 2016.
