After a year channel hopping and a lot of controversy, the Great British Bake Off is back on our screens.
The show is airing with its new presenters, feminist lesbian TV host Sandi Toksvig and eccentric comedian Noel Fielding.
Unlike previous series, the eighth instalment of the show is broadcast on Channel 4, instead of BBC One.
But what has definitely not changed is the line-up of brilliant bakers and the endless stream of memes that follow them.
One baker taking the internet by storm is Yan, a middle-aged amateur baker from London.
Who is Chuen-Yan ‘Yan’?
Yan, as she is known to friends and, now, Bake Off fans, is originally from Hong Kong.
The 46-year-old moved to Britain with her family, including brother Ken, at just two-years-old.
She has two additional siblings alongside Ken – one brother called Yee and a sister named Ying.
Yan has worked as a biomedical scientist for the NHS, specialising as a as a molecular biologist.
She still uses her science skills, working as a laboratory research scientist for The Francis Crock Institute.
What’s Yan’s home life and is Yan in a relationship?
Yan is married to her wife, Marian, who she lives with in north London.
The pair aren’t believed to have children, but they do have a cats named Kacey.
How long has Yan been baking?
Yan got into baking in between tough 24-hour NHS shifts.
The difficult lifestyle led her to resort to baking in a bid to learn new skills and have a new hobby on days off.
Baking wasn’t originally her strength, however, having come from a family that would steam, rather than bake their treats.
Is Yan on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram?
Since Great British Bake Off began airing, though, she has joined Twitter, posting some heart-warming updates about life as a Bake Off star @YannyBakes.
