Jussie Smollett Calls Out Trump As ‘A Pig, A Racist, A Horrible Human Being’

“It’s a cliché but the power of the people is stronger than the people in power,” he said.

Jussie Smollett sat down for an interview with SiriusXM Progress Radio as the fourth season of his hit show, Empire, takes to the airwaves this week. On the show, Smollett, who’s openly gay, plays gay performer Jamal Lyon. While speaking with SiriusXM, Smollett unloaded about many of his feelings about the nation as it currently stands.

That started with his thoughts on Trump: “He’s a pig, a racist, a horrible human being,” Smollett said, as the conversation focused on the President’s attack on the NFL. “To me Colin Kaepernick is very patriotic,” Smollett continued. “He’s doing what he’s supposed to be doing as a citizen of this country. If anything, sadly, the person who was falsely elected to be president of the United States is actually the least patriotic person that we’ve seen in a long time.”

Smollett emphasized the importance of resistance and unity among the people during these dark times.

“It’s a cliché but the power of the people is stronger than the people in power,” he said. “And we are in power. Look at the conversation… Of course, it’s hard, but you must remember: We’re fighting the same things our parents and our grandparents and our great grandparents were fighting against. But let us not forget that we have it better the our parents, our grandparents and our great grandparents had it. Let’s utilize what we have to come together. And I think that is what we’re seeing.”

As for his Empire character, Smollett remained coy about the tumultuous love life of Jamal that seems to grow only more dramatic in season 4. Empire airs on Fox Wednesdays at 8 PM EST.
